H.R. 552 — Veterans Collaboration Act

This section establishes a two-year pilot program within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to promote partnerships between the VA and nonprofit organizations and institutions of higher learning, specifically encouraging collaborations between veterans service organizations—which provide credentialed personnel to assist veterans with disability compensation claims, appeals, and other legal needs—and law schools offering pro bono legal services to veterans. The program is carried out in states with the highest veteran populations (as determined by the VA Secretary), uses guidelines to identify and encourage optimal participating organizations, promotes the partnerships and notifies veterans via social media, and requires quarterly reports to the Senate and House Committees on Veterans' Affairs through program termination describing social media use and the number of veterans assisted by law schools.
