H.R. 5521 — Peace Corps Volunteers Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2025

This section sets forth congressional findings recognizing the 65th anniversary of the Peace Corps in 2026, the service of nearly 250,000 Volunteers in more than 140 countries across sectors including agriculture, community economic development, education, environment, health, and youth in development, and the program's three goals of providing trained personnel to host countries, promoting understanding of Americans abroad, and enhancing Americans' understanding of other peoples. The findings also note the intent to award the Congressional Gold Medal to Volunteers who served from August 28, 1961, through December 31, 2026.

This section authorizes the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President pro tempore of the Senate to present a single Congressional Gold Medal of appropriate design to the Director of the Peace Corps in the District of Columbia, in recognition of Peace Corps volunteers and their service promoting world peace and friendship. The Secretary of the Treasury shall strike the medal, which shall be given to Peace Corps headquarters for display and research, and it is the sense of Congress that the Director should make it available for display at other appropriate locations associated with Peace Corps volunteers, with preference for affiliated sites.

This section authorizes the Secretary to strike and sell duplicates in bronze of the gold medal struck pursuant to section 3, at a price sufficient to cover the costs of the bronze medals, including labor, materials, dies, use of machinery, and overhead expenses.

This section designates medals struck pursuant to this Act as national medals for purposes of chapter 51 of title 31, United States Code, and as numismatic items for purposes of sections 5134 and 5136 of such title. (Thus, the U.S. Mint may strike and sell the medals under established statutory authorities.)

This section authorizes the use of amounts from the United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund, as necessary, to pay the costs of medals struck pursuant to this Act and requires deposit of proceeds from sales of duplicate bronze medals authorized under section 4 into that fund.
