H.R. 555 — Veterans Affairs Transfer of Information and Sharing of Disability Examination Procedures With DOD Doctors Act

This section requires the physical examination for separating Armed Forces members who have or may have a medical condition eligible for Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) disability compensation and benefits to be performed by a health care provider certified by the VA Secretary to determine such eligibility, with the examination completed by a VA-certified provider if the condition is discovered mid-exam. It further makes any eligibility determination made as part of such physical examination binding on the VA as the basis for assigning a disability rating to the separating member.

This section directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and the Secretary of Defense to jointly establish a system, for use by both departments, to maintain medical and personnel records of Armed Forces members and veterans, including data sharing between the departments.
