H.R. 5593 — To amend title 38, United States Code, to include eyeglass lens fittings in the category of medical services authorized to be furnished to veterans under the Veterans Community Care Program, and for other purposes.

This section expands the definition of "medical services" in VA health care programs to include optometric services, fittings for eyeglass lenses, and podiatric services (inserting ", fittings for eyeglass lenses," after "Optometric" in 38 U.S.C. 1701(6)(C), previously "Optometric and podiatric services"). It (1) directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to issue regulations ensuring veterans eligible under the Veterans Community Care Program (i.e., program authorizing community provider care when VA facilities cannot meet standards for timeliness or access) can schedule nearby appointments for eyeglass lens fittings at non-VA providers; and (2) requires a report to Congress within 180 days of enactment on implementation status, challenges, mitigation strategies, and veteran benefits.
