No CRS summary available for this bill.
This section requires the Secretary of Defense to use members of the National Guard to carry out the FireGuard Program—a program of record to aggregate, analyze, and assess multi-source remote sensing information for interagency partnerships in wildfire detection, monitoring, and emergency response (previously permissive). It further (1) requires the first of five annual briefings to the Armed Services Committees of the Senate and House of Representatives, beginning one year after enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026, covering recipients of program information (i.e., states, counties, municipalities, and Tribal governments), comparative wildfire perimeter maps, detection-to-alert times, and integration of emerging satellite and aerial technologies; and (2) terminates the program on December 31, 2031.
