H.R. 565 — District of Columbia Federal Judicial Officials Residency Equality Act of 2025

This section eliminates the residency exception previously applicable to the District of Columbia for circuit judges, district judges, United States attorneys, United States marshals, and clerks of court—requiring them to reside in their respective circuit, district, or other assigned area—while retaining exceptions for the Southern District of New York and Eastern District of New York (within 20 miles for judges, attorneys, and the marshal for the Southern District); makes gender-neutral language changes ("his" or "he" to "his or her" or "he or she"); and applies only to individuals appointed after enactment.
