H.R. 5700 — Break Free From Domestic Violence Act

This section establishes a prohibition on charging fees for early lease termination in covered housing programs (i.e., specified federal housing assistance programs such as Section 8 tenant-based rental assistance, public housing, the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, and certain housing programs for homeless veterans and victims of domestic violence) to applicants or tenants who voluntarily exit their leases early due to being victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking.
