H.R. 5739 — Italian Heroes and Heritage Act

This section states congressional findings concerning Christopher Columbus's 1492 voyage, President Benjamin Harrison's establishment of Christopher Columbus Day in 1892 to honor that voyage and 11 Italian-Americans lynched in New Orleans, and expresses the sense of Congress that October 13 should continue to be celebrated nationwide as Christopher Columbus Day to honor Italian-American heritage and Columbus.

This section prohibits the obligation, expenditure, or disbursement of federal funds to any state or unit of local government that celebrates Indigenous Peoples Day in lieu of Columbus Day during the one-year period beginning after October 13, 2025, and on each Columbus Day thereafter.
