H.R. 5740 — WIC Benefits Protection Act

This section requires the Secretary to carry out the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)—which provides supplemental foods and nutrition education to low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 at nutritional risk (previously optional); revises eligibility language to state that eligible individuals "shall be" specified persons (previously that participation "shall be limited to" such persons); and establishes mandatory appropriations of such sums as necessary for FY2026 and each succeeding fiscal year (in addition to amounts otherwise available; previously authorized at specified levels).
