H.R. 5936 — Home for the Brave Act of 2025

This section establishes that disability compensation under 38 U.S.C. chapter 11 and dependency and indemnity compensation under chapter 13—i.e., certain veterans' benefits received by any household member—are excluded from household income for purposes of (1) determining eligibility for HUD-administered housing assistance programs (e.g., public housing, Section 8 vouchers); (2) calculating benefits payable under such programs; and (3) determining rent for assisted dwelling units. (Thus, veterans' households may qualify for assistance, receive higher subsidies, or pay lower rent than if these benefits counted as income.)
