This section prohibits dissemination of advertisements paid for by a foreign government or foreign person (i.e., an alien or an entity with its principal place of business in a foreign country) without disclosure in the ad that it was so funded—via sound for audio components, print for text components, and both for video components, including for foreign persons the relevant country of citizenship or principal place of business. The Federal Trade Commission enforces violations as unfair or deceptive acts or practices under section 18(a)(1)(B) of the FTC Act (15 U.S.C. 57a(a)(1)(B)), with all applicable powers, penalties, privileges, and immunities of that Act.
