H.R. 5989 — Supporting Troops’ Access to Recognition Services Act

This section requires the Secretary of Defense to ensure that a covered identification and eligibility facility—capable of assisting service members and eligible dependents with covered identification matters (i.e., Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) and Real-Time Automated Personnel Identification System (RAPIDS), or successors, including ID issuance)—is located within 30 miles of each metropolitan statistical area with a population of 300,000 or more (per the most recent census estimates) and is open and staffed by at least one qualified person at least two days per week during regular business hours.
