H.R. 6001 — Veterans with ALS Reporting Act

This section directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in consultation with the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to submit to Congress, not later than one year after the date of enactment, a report assessing the incidence and prevalence of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in veterans (as defined in 38 U.S.C. 101). The report must include (1) descriptions of resources and support provided by the CDC and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to veterans with ALS and any deficiencies therein; (2) strategies to develop and test risk reduction measures for ALS among veterans and to enable VA clinic patients to participate in VA-sponsored clinical trials and research; and (3) legislative recommendations to address related challenges. This section further requires the VA Secretary to track ALS prevalence in veterans using the CDC's ALS registry and biorepository and to submit report updates, including prevalence data, not later than three years after enactment and every three years thereafter.
