H.R. 6053 — SGLF Act of 2025

This section authorizes the United States Section of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission—in coordination with federal agencies, interstate compacts, and Tribal, State, and local governments—to develop efforts to combat invasive mussel species (e.g., zebra mussels, quagga mussels) as part of U.S. obligations under the Convention on Great Lakes Fisheries. (As background: The Commission manages shared U.S.-Canada fishery resources in the Great Lakes, with existing authorities focused on invasive sea lamprey control.) It directs the Secretaries of the Interior (through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Geological Survey directors) and Commerce (through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration administrator) to assist those efforts. It authorizes appropriations of $500 million for FY2026 through FY2035, to be made available to the Commission in addition to amounts otherwise appropriated under the Act.
