H.R. 6142 — Ask the Union Members Act

This section (1) amends sec. 101(a) of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 (i.e., union members' bill of rights) to prohibit a labor organization from executing a collective bargaining agreement unless ratified by a majority vote of members in good standing via secret ballot referendum, after providing the agreement to each member at least 72 hours prior; and (2) amends sec. 8(b) of the National Labor Relations Act to make it an unfair labor practice for a labor organization to authorize a strike unless approved by a majority vote of members in good standing via secret ballot referendum. The amendments take effect 18 months after enactment.
