H.R. 6184 — NOAA Data Preservation Act

This section prohibits the Secretary of Commerce from canceling a contract with a cloud service provider for storage of a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) data set unless the secretary develops a plan for uninterrupted storage of the data set—including transition to another cloud service provider and associated reporting systems—and collaborates with the NOAA Administrator to ensure uninterrupted protection of the data set. In this section, the term “cloud service provider” has the meaning given the term in section 2200 of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (6 U.S.C. 650) (i.e., an entity offering products or services related to cloud computing, as defined by NIST Special Publication 800-145).
