H.R. 6244 — Protecting our Veterans’ Memories Act

This section establishes a plot or interment allowance of $525 (as increased from time to time under subsection (d)) payable by the Department of Veterans Affairs to a state, agency, political subdivision, or tribal organization for the burial in a state-owned cemetery of a spouse, surviving spouse (including one who remarried), minor child (under 21 years of age, or under 23 if pursuing approved education), or unmarried adult child (at the Secretary's discretion) of a veteran eligible for national cemetery burial under 38 U.S.C. §2402(1), (2), (3), (4), or (7) (i.e., those who died on active duty, from a service-connected cause, while receiving VA care, while receiving VA pension or compensation, or certain other veterans). The provision applies to deaths occurring on or after the date of enactment and includes conforming amendments redesignating subsections (c) through (e) as (d) through (f) and updating cross-references throughout the section.
