H.R. 6262 — Taiwan Interpol Endorsement and Inclusion Act

This section declares congressional findings on Taiwan's contributions to global peace and its prior Interpol membership (from 1964 until ejection in 1984 upon China's accession); states U.S. policy to advocate for Taiwan's full membership or observer status in appropriate international organizations (i.e., those where the U.S. participates), including via U.S. representatives' voice, vote, and influence and in U.S.-China bilateral engagements; and directs the Secretary of State to (1) develop a strategy to secure Taiwan's Interpol membership (which facilitates mutual assistance among national police authorities via its I-24/7 global communications system), encourage U.S.-Taiwan information sharing and Taiwan's involvement in Interpol activities, and assist Taiwan's regional engagements as appropriate; and (2) instruct the U.S. National Central Bureau (Interpol Washington) to request Taiwan's membership and urge other members to support it. The section further requires the Secretary of State, in coordination with Interpol Washington, to submit to Congress, not later than 90 days after enactment, an unclassified report describing the U.S. strategy and efforts to promote Taiwan's observer or membership status in such organizations.

This section directs the U.S. National Central Bureau (Interpol Washington) to submit to the House and Senate Committees on the Judiciary, not later than 90 days after enactment, a report on threats to Taiwan’s criminal intelligence resulting from its non-member and non-observer status in the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) and consequent lack of access to Interpol communications and data. The report must be submitted in unclassified form but may include a classified annex.
