This section establishes a Lung Cancer Task Force within the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to be appointed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services and including at least one representative each from the National Cancer Institute and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program. The task force must examine (1) disparities in lung cancer research, funding, and patient access to treatments compared to other diseases (accounting for the number of people affected); (2) federal funding for lung cancer research relative to disease burden; and (3) lung cancer screenings in the United States, after which the Secretary must submit a report to Congress with findings and recommendations—including for increasing federal funding—within 180 days of enactment.
