H.R. 6347 — Global Child Thrive Reauthorization Act of 2025

This section directs the Secretary of State to appoint a Special Advisor for Assistance to Orphans and Vulnerable Children not later than 90 days after the date of enactment, pursuant to authority in section 135(e)(1) of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 (22 U.S.C. 2152f(e)(1)). As background, that section addresses assistance for orphans and other vulnerable children in developing countries (i.e., those affected by HIV/AIDS, poverty, conflicts, and disasters), primarily administered by USAID.

This section extends the authorization of the Global Child Thrive Act of 2020 through 2030 (from 2025). (As background, the act requires U.S. agencies—including USAID, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Department of State—to develop and implement a whole-of-government strategy promoting child survival, thriving, and development in low- and middle-income countries.)
