H.R. 6348 — Transportation Assistance for Olympic and World Cup Cities Act of 2025

This section establishes a new grant program (49 U.S.C. §5502) under which the Secretary of Transportation allocates funds evenly to host metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) for each "covered event"—a multiday international sporting event (e.g., Olympics, Paralympics, Special Olympics, or FIFA World Cup) selected by the International Olympic Committee or FIFA and not regularly held at the site—up to $10 million per host MPO per covered event (with remaining funds allocated to host MPOs for the next covered event). Host MPOs may use the funds for eligible transportation projects or planning activities (eligible under title 49 or 23) within 100 miles of the event that assist movement of people and goods or mitigate adverse effects (excluding temporary infrastructure or bid preparation costs), or may provide the funds to eligible entities including states, localities, Indian Tribes (as defined in 25 U.S.C. §5304), territories, non-host MPOs, intercity passenger rail operators, and certain airports. The section authorizes appropriations for the program and subjects grants to specified requirements under other statutory provisions.
