H.R. 637 — 911 SAVES Act

This section states congressional findings recognizing the critical role of public safety telecommunicators (i.e., 9-1-1 dispatchers) in emergency response—including aiding in missing child cases, hostage situations, active shooter incidents, and support for first responders—the trauma and PTSD risks they face from such work, and the need to reclassify them as protective service occupations in the Standard Occupational Classification system.

This section directs the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, not later than 30 days after the date of enactment of this Act, to categorize public safety telecommunicators (i.e., 911 dispatchers and related personnel) as a protective service occupation under the Standard Occupational Classification System (i.e., the federal standard used by statistical agencies such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics to classify workers for data collection and analysis).
