H.R. 6410 — Atlantic Coast Shipping Safety Act

This section directs the Secretary of the department in which the Coast Guard is operating to issue, not later than one year after the date of enactment, a regulation for nearshore and offshore shipping safety fairways (i.e., designated routes that separate commercial shipping from fishing and other activities to enhance maritime safety) along the Atlantic Coast, with a minimum appropriate width of not less than that proposed in the Coast Guard's proposed rule titled “Shipping Safety Fairways Along the Atlantic Coast,” issued January 19, 2024 (89 Fed. Reg. 3587). The minimum width does not apply to connector, cut-across, or cutoff fairways, Traffic Separation Schemes, or precautionary areas; the regulation applies to the geographic area covered by the proposed rule; and it takes effect on December 31, 2026.
