§2. Use of Byrne funds for elder justice task forces
This section amends the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program, which provides formula grants to states and units of local government for specified criminal justice purposes, to authorize a new eligible use—establishment, operation, and implementation of elder justice task forces addressing financial exploitation, scams, and fraud primarily targeting individuals 60 years of age or older (which may include or coordinate with state and local law enforcement, prosecutors, adult protective services, and federal agencies such as the FBI, FTC, DOJ, and Secret Service). It further requires such grantees to report on (1) cases initiated and concluded, (2) victims provided support, legal assistance, or restitution, (3) scam types and perpetrator contact methods for each case and victim, and (4) indicators of organized or transnational criminal involvement, and directs the Attorney General to submit annual summary reports to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees.
