H.R. 6499 — Assessing Safety Tools for Parents and Minors Act

This section directs the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), not later than 6 months after enactment and in consultation with industry, parents, communications technology experts, parental control experts, privacy experts, mental health experts, and other entities, to (1) review industry efforts to promote online safety for minors (i.e., individuals under age 17) via education, parental and child safety tools, age-appropriate content labels, privacy and safety settings, and related technologies or initiatives; and (2) assess their effectiveness in mitigating online harms to minors, with recommendations for industry, Congress, and agencies. The FTC must submit a report with these findings and recommendations to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce not later than 3 years after enactment. This section exempts the Act from the Paperwork Reduction Act.
