H.R. 6529 — Protecting Families from AI Data Center Energy Costs Act

This section directs the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to hold a Commissioner-led technical conference not later than 90 days after enactment of this Act with representatives from the Department of Energy, public utilities, transmission providers, state regulators, ratepayer advocates, large loads (including data centers used for artificial intelligence models), and other appropriate participants on strategies and rate structures to protect residential and small commercial ratepayers from increased costs associated with large loads. FERC must submit a report to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources not later than 180 days after the conference concludes containing recommendations and best practices from the conference.
