H.R. 656 — Protecting Military Parental Leave Evaluations Act

This section directs the Secretary of Defense, not later than 180 days after the date of enactment, to prescribe regulations (1) exempting members of the Armed Forces taking parental leave under 10 U.S.C. 701(h)(1)(A)—which provides up to 12 weeks of leave following the birth or adoption of a child or placement for foster care—that exceeds 31 consecutive days from performance evaluations; and (2) authorizing such leave to be taken during the two-year period (from the 12-month period) beginning on the birth, adoption, or placement without requiring a waiver from the Secretary concerned. The section also requires the Secretary to submit to the Senate and House Committees on Armed Services a report on implementation of these requirements.
