H.R. 6616 — Clean Water Justice Act

This section increases Clean Water Act maximum criminal penalties for knowing violations, in the matter following 33 U.S.C. 1319(c)(2)(B), as follows: (1) to $25,000 (from $5,000) per day of violation; (2) to $250,000 (from $50,000) for certain repeat or negligent violations; and (3) to $500,000 (from $100,000) for other specified violations—with all amounts subject to annual inflation adjustments by the EPA Administrator using the Consumer Price Index for all-urban consumers—and requires the Administrator to publish each adjustment in the Federal Register, with adjustments applying only to violations after publication.
