H.R. 6635 — Bus Operator Safety and Security Act

This section establishes requirements under the national public transportation safety program (49 U.S.C. 5329) for protective barriers on operator workstations of new fixed-route buses that are 30 feet or longer with a useful life of 10 years or more and purchased with federal funds (excluding section 5311 funds). Beginning two years after enactment, recipients must certify compliance or that a labor organization representing the plurality of frontline workers employed by the recipient (or contractor) has waived the requirement for the bus; the barrier must extend from floor to ceiling, fully enclose the workstation to prevent unwanted entry of persons, fluids, and objects, and not impede the operator's lines of sight to the bus exterior.
