H.R. 6642 — ROUTE Act

This section establishes limited interstate operation authority for eligible commercial driver's license (CDL) holders under 21 years old (i.e., ages 18 to 20) who hold CDLs restricted to intrastate operation. An eligible driver may operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) in interstate commerce within a 150 air-mile radius of their normal work reporting location—provided the location remains in the driver's home state—subject to requirements that (1) the driver return to and be released from that location within 14 consecutive hours of departure, and (2) the driver receive at least 10 consecutive hours off duty between such on-duty periods.
