H.R. 6743 — Medicare Investment and Gun Violence Prevention Act

This section repeals the elimination of National Firearms Act (NFA) transfer and making taxes on regulated firearms (enacted by P.L. 119-21), reinstating the transfer tax at $200 per firearm transferred (or $5 for any other weapon under 26 U.S.C. §5845(e)) and the making tax at $200 per firearm made (both from $0), effective for calendar quarters beginning more than 90 days after enactment. It also makes a conforming amendment to 26 U.S.C. §4182(a) by striking the second sentence.

This section appropriates $1.7 billion to the Federal Hospital Insurance Trust Fund (i.e., Medicare Part A trust fund) for FY2026, in addition to amounts otherwise available, with funds to remain available until expended. (The trust fund finances Medicare Part A benefits, including inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility services, hospice care, and home health services.)
