H.R. 6890 — PROTECT Immigration Act of 2025

This section rescinds the program authorizing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to enter agreements with state and local law enforcement for such officials to perform immigration enforcement functions (i.e., 287(g) program) by restricting authority to inquire about or verify immigration or citizenship status and to investigate, apprehend, arrest, or detain individuals for immigration violations to immigration officers and authorized DHS employees, except as provided in specified statutory provisions (i.e., 8 U.S.C. 1252c, which separately authorizes state and local officials to arrest and detain certain previously deported criminal aliens after federal confirmation).
