H.R. 6977 — Better Care for PFAS Patients Act of 2026

This section directs the Director of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) to enter into an agreement within 60 days of enactment with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (or another entity) to assess health effects of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) measurable in human tissues, formulate clinical recommendations—with an initial assessment and recommendations completed within two years and updates every five years or more frequently as needed—and consult PFAS-exposed communities. The section further requires the ATSDR Director, in consultation with the contracted entity, to issue up-to-date clinical guidance based on these assessments within five years of the agreement (and every five years thereafter or more frequently as needed), post the guidance on the ATSDR website, and disseminate it to state and local public health authorities and appropriate health care professionals.
