H.R. 6990 — PROTECT Act of 2026

This section directs the EPA Administrator (1) to issue a final rule within 180 days of enactment adding as a class all perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) with at least one fully fluorinated carbon atom to the list of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) under Clean Air Act §112(b); and (2) within 365 days after that rule, to revise the source category list under §112(c)(1) to include categories and subcategories of major sources and area sources of such PFAS. (As background, HAPs are pollutants for which EPA must establish National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants, including maximum achievable control technology standards for emissions from major sources and generally available control technology standards for area sources.)
