H.R. 7254 — To amend the National Trails System Act to direct the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study on the feasibility of designating the Bay Area Ridge National Scenic Trail, and for other purposes.

This section sets forth congressional findings regarding the Bay Area Ridge Trail, a scenic nonmotorized multi-use trail that extends approximately 550 miles (with approximately 415 miles completed and 140 miles yet to be completed). The findings describe the trail's location near urban areas of the San Francisco Bay Area; its provision of outdoor recreation opportunities to a diverse population; its nationally significant scenic, historic, cultural, and environmental qualities (including the Pacific Ocean, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, diverse ecosystems, and geologic features such as the Golden Gate Bridge and San Andreas Fault); and its connections to regional trails such as the Bay Trail, Vine Trail, and Coyote Creek Trail.

This section establishes the Bay Area Ridge National Scenic Trail—a multi-use trail extending approximately 550 miles along ridgelines of hills and mountains surrounding the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California and connecting over 75 parks and open spaces—and directs the Secretary of the Interior, in consultation with the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council and federal and state agencies administering lands along the route, to complete and submit to Congress a feasibility study for its designation as a national scenic trail not later than one year after enactment.
