H.R. 728 — Expanding Head Start Eligibility Act of 2025

This section establishes a definition of "public assistance" in the Head Start Act (42 U.S.C. 9832), as determined by the Secretary, to include (A) assistance under part A of title IV of the Social Security Act (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)); (B) benefits under title XVI of the Social Security Act (Supplemental Security Income (SSI)); (C) Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits; (D) nutrition assistance program (NAP) benefits and food distribution program on Indian reservations (FDPIR); (E) state-funded food assistance programs with income eligibility standards identical or substantially identical to SNAP; (F) assistance under section 17 of the Child Nutrition Act (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)); (G) assistance under section 8 of the United States Housing Act of 1937 (Section 8 housing); and (H) additional federal benefits as determined by the Secretary.
