This section directs the Secretary of Commerce, acting through the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information, to conduct a study on the impacts of artificial intelligence technology on the security of telecommunications networks. The study must analyze (1) how such technology may improve networks by facilitating real-time threat and malware detection, zero trust security, resiliency and interoperability, energy efficiency, and integrated sensing and communications; (2) its use with Open Radio Access Network technology; (3) its use with virtualized security technology; (4) its use to improve firewalls and network segmentation; and (5) risks it poses. For the study, the Secretary must consult with the Federal Communications Commission and industry stakeholders, including on research and development activities, and submit a report with results and possible legislative recommendations to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation not later than one year after enactment of this Act, after providing an opportunity for public comment.
