H.R. 7324 — More Behavioral Health Providers Act of 2026

This section modifies the Medicare health professional shortage area (HPSA) bonus program by (1) retaining the 10% bonus payment on physicians' services (other than specified health services) furnished in a designated HPSA, (2) establishing a 15% bonus payment on specified health services furnished in a designated mental health professional shortage area, and (3) expanding eligibility for both bonuses to applicable practitioners (i.e., physician assistants, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, clinical social workers, clinical psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and mental health counselors), with payments made on a monthly or quarterly basis from the Federal Supplementary Medical Insurance Trust Fund. Specified health services are those furnished on or after January 1, 2027, for diagnosis, evaluation, or treatment of mental health disorders or substance use disorders (including co-occurring mental health disorders). (As background, the HPSA bonus program incentivizes physicians and now certain practitioners to furnish services in geographic areas with provider shortages, as designated under section 332(a)(1)(A) of the Public Health Service Act.)
