H.R. 7358 — Safer Rail Crossing Act of 2026

This section directs the Secretary of Transportation, acting through the Federal Highway Administration Administrator, to issue within one year of enactment guidance describing the types of trespass prevention projects under 23 U.S.C. §130(e)(1)(B) (i.e., countermeasures to reduce pedestrian fatalities and injuries on or near roadways from trespassing on rail rights-of-way) for which a state may use funds set aside under §130(e)(1)(A). (As background, §130(e) requires states to set aside at least $1.25 billion annually nationwide from Highway Safety Improvement Program funds for railway-highway grade crossings and trespass prevention.)
