This section establishes special compliance rules under the Stored Communications Act for covered providers (i.e., providers of electronic communication service or remote computing service with 1,000,000 or more users, subscribers, or customers). It (1) requires disclosure of communications contents or records within 72 hours of a warrant or court order's issuance, (2) authorizes courts to extend this period by up to 7 days for voluminous or complex information, (3) shortens the time for providers to file motions to quash or modify to 48 hours, and (4) permits harmed individuals to bring civil actions for injunctive relief and damages against non-compliant providers.
