H.R. 7503 — Housing for Heroes Act of 2026

This section expands eligibility under the Good Neighbor Next Door Sales Program to include members of the Armed Forces alongside firefighters and law enforcement officers. (As background, the program enables the Department of Housing and Urban Development to sell single-unit properties it has acquired—typically through foreclosure of FHA-insured mortgages—at a 50% discount to eligible public servants who commit to occupying the property for three years, currently limited to revitalization areas.) It further authorizes sales of such properties to these buyers without regard to revitalization area location (notwithstanding section 204 of the National Housing Act and HUD regulations at 24 CFR part 291) and directs the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to issue conforming regulations.
