“To prohibit certain sex offenders from entering or using the services of certain domestic violence and homeless shelters, and for other purposes.”
No CRS summary available for this bill.
This section prohibits federally funded domestic violence and homeless shelters (covered shelters) from providing services or shelter to covered sex offenders—sex offenders required to register on the National Sex Offender Registry—and renders noncompliant shelters ineligible for federal funds in the following fiscal year. It further prohibits covered sex offenders from entering or using covered shelters (except to seek information on non-covered shelters), requires immediate notification to shelter operators of their registry status upon entry, and imposes criminal penalties of a fine, imprisonment for up to five years, or both for knowing violations by offenders. The offender prohibition takes effect 180 days after enactment.
