H.R. 7739 — Rural Emergency Response Support Act

This section establishes an exception to the overtime pay requirements of section 7(a) of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA)—which generally requires compensation at 1.5 times the regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek—for emergency medical technicians and paramedics employed by public agencies that are political subdivisions with fewer than 100,000 residents or by private entities contracting with such agencies. (Thus, these employers are deemed not to violate the FLSA overtime rules with respect to such employees.)
