H.R. 7915 — Clarence Mitchell, Jr. Statue Act

This section states congressional findings on the life and civil rights advocacy of Clarence Mitchell, Jr., including his career as a reporter for the Baltimore Afro-American, director of the NAACP Washington Bureau from 1950 to 1978, role in passage of major civil rights laws, more than 180 congressional testimonies, U.S. delegation to the United Nations in 1975, and receipt of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1980.

This section directs the Joint Committee on the Library to obtain a statue of Clarence Mitchell, Jr., and place it in a permanent public location in the U.S. Capitol not later than two years after enactment. The section authorizes appropriations of such sums as necessary to carry out these requirements, with funds to remain available until expended.
