H.R. 8217 — Next Gen Road Safety Act

This section expands the authorized uses of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grants to include procurement of equipment, technology, or support systems—including vehicle-disabling systems, police bumper systems, and drones—to assist law enforcement agencies in the prevention and de-escalation of high-speed vehicular pursuits. (COPS grants, administered by the Department of Justice, support state, local, tribal, and other entities in community-oriented policing activities such as hiring, training, and technology acquisition.)
