This section expands exemptions from SNAP work requirements under section 6(e) of the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 by adding two categories: (9) individuals with a student aid index equal to or less than $0, as determined under part F of title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965; and (10) individuals determined to be independent under specified criteria of section 480(d)(1) of the Higher Education Act (i.e., subparagraphs (B), (C), (D), (G), and (H)). It further modifies the able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWD) work requirement under section 6(o)(2)(A) to count, in the aggregate, attending an institution of higher education (as defined in section 102 of the Higher Education Act of 1965, 20 U.S.C. 1002) toward the 20 hours per week (or 80 hours per month).
This section establishes an effective date for this Act and its amendments of 180 days after enactment, with the amendments not applying to certification periods that begin before such date.
