H.R. 8296 — Preparing Superfund for Climate Change Act of 2026

This section amends remedial action standards under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA, i.e., Superfund law) to require consideration of local natural disasters and extreme weather hazards, including projected exacerbation due to climate change. Specifically, (1) it adds such threats as a factor in revising the National Priorities List or response standards (subsection (b)(1)); and (2) it directs the President to assess whether selected remedial actions remain protective in light of such hazards during five-year reviews (subsection (c)).
