H.R. 8351 — Clean Slate through Repayment Act of 2026

This section requires the Secretary of Education, guaranty agency, or other holder of a defaulted loan made, insured, or guaranteed under title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 to request that consumer reporting agencies remove the default and related adverse information from the borrower's credit history upon full repayment. (Thus, borrowers who fully repay defaulted federal student loans will have the default removed from their credit reports.)
