H.R. 8382 — To prohibit the manufacture and conveyance of certain products for children that incorporate an artificial intelligence chatbot, and for other purposes.

This section prohibits, beginning 180 days after enactment, the manufacture for sale, import, sale, offer for sale, or distribution of any children's toy or child care article (as defined in section 108(g)(1) of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008) that incorporates an artificial intelligence chatbot (i.e., a technology using artificial intelligence or machine learning for interactive conversations, as defined in section 5002 of the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act of 2020). Violations are treated as violations of section 19 of the Consumer Product Safety Act (i.e., subject to injunctions, civil penalties, and other enforcement actions by the Consumer Product Safety Commission).
