H.R. 8478 — RECON Act

This section eliminates the requirement for mandatory reconsideration prior to a hearing for initial determinations of entitlement to benefits under Title II (Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance) or Title XVI (Supplemental Security Income) of the Social Security Act. The amendments apply to initial decisions made on or after one year after the date of enactment. (Thus, claimants may request an administrative hearing directly after an initial denial.)
